Introduction

You may have noticed that over the past few months I haven’t posted much here. Let’s be fair, last post was in July and that only came because I already pretty much had it written, and I’d hoped to post once a week. However that didn’t pan out and I needed a bit of a break.

Not that I believe anyone deserves an explanation if someone needs a break, they should take one without feeling the need to justify it, especially when it comes to mental health and the content creation space. However, I wanted to give a brief explanation as to why I haven’t been as active as I’d like to be. The reason is a combination of many things some related to streaming, and some not.

Streaming & Content Creation

It’s been very busy in the Streamer.bot world. While the current version had been in testing since February I was still able to stream and release updates. It wasn’t until after TwitchCon at the end of May that things really ramped up as we headed into beta phase and then into public release. When this happened I was pretty tired. I had done a lot of late nights and early mornings just doing what I could to help. While I could have been more active while working on Streamer.bot, that project took up most of my time. Since I can’t always financially support Nate, the best thing I can do is give him my time and commitment. My content creation journey would have ended years ago if it weren’t for Nate and Streamer.bot something I genuinely believe I’ll always be grateful for. At this point I did what I had to so I took a break from that work and focused more on game development, something where I could really feel a bit more passionate about.

During that time, I participated in 2 Game Jams and released a 3 Games game something I’ll talk about in a future post.

We also recently got a new version of OBS. While that hasn’t necessarily slowed me down, it has changed my motivation to do certain things.

Personal Stuff

Some of you might not know that I’ve been out of work for a while due to mental health struggles. Although it’s been some time, it still affects my day-to-day life. Usually, it’s well managed, but a few recent events have really knocked my confidence.

I started an online course to gain new skills, which I was really excited about until I spoke to my work coach. For context, in the UK, if you’re on benefits, you have to have a work coach who helps you find employment. Unfortunately, mine has been unsupportive and has made me feel worse about myself and my chances of finding work. This has really affected my confidence and made me question my skills and abilities.

I’m working through it, but it’s been a struggle, which has also made staying motivated for the course difficult. So it is taking far more time than I would have originally had hoped for. I also went on holiday which, while nice, disrupted my routine and made it harder to get back into the swing of things, especially since I really needed that break and completely shut off.

Finally, I’ve had quite a few bouts of illness from flu to toothaches and other infections which just made it difficult to function properly.

What’s Coming

I want to recap everything I’ve been working on during my time away because there are a few things I’d like to share. I won’t go into much detail right now since I want to give each blog post the space it deserves. However, here’s a list of topics I’ll be covering soon:

There are many other posts I want to write, but they’re not directly related to my time away, so I’ll save those for later.

Final Thoughts

While I’ve been away, and even though the next post might not be for a while (or it could be next week), I wanted to say thank you to everyone who’s stuck around and to give a bit of background on why I’ve been quiet. Like I said, nobody owes anyone an explanation for taking time away, but I wanted to give one anyway.

I hope to be back more regularly soon. I’ve got a lot of content planned and I’m excited to share it.
