So TwitchCon EU 2025 has come and gone, and what an event it was! Held in the vibrant city of Rotterdam, this year’s TwitchCon brought together streamers, fans, and industry professionals from all over Europe and beyond for a weekend filled with excitement, networking, and unforgettable experiences.
In this recap, we’ll first talk about some of the announcements that were made, then briefly touch on the event itself, and finally share my personal experience.
The opening ceremony set the tone for the weekend, with Twitch announcing several exciting updates and features. Some of the highlights included:
You can now run your own gift sub events, offering 35% discounts on 5 or more gift subs. These events last for 12 hours per token and it looks like you get 7 tokens a year. This is great for running special events on your channel for birthdays, anniversaries, or other occasions. Like other sub discount events, the cost is subsidized evenly between Twitch and the streamer, so you can still earn revenue from them.
Twitch will soon allow you to run your own Gift Sub promotions for 12-hour windows, a limited number of times per year. These promotions are Shared Discounts, meaning the discounted revenue is split between you and Twitch. (Similar to other 35% gift sub discounts.)
Twitch will now allow you to stream both horizontally and vertically at the same time. This is fantastic for streamers looking to reach a wider audience. There are also updates to mobile viewing, such as overlayed chat and controls for how much chat you want to see. This will be great for Just Chatting streamers. For people like me who code or game, I’m not sure how effective it’ll be.
Twitch will be launching Dual Format Video, allowing you to stream in both horizontal and vertical formats. (According to my sources, Twitch is also exploring automatically adjusting the video based on the phone's orientation.) Join my newsletter for all the creator space updates! tos.gg/s
Twitch has lowered the requirements for becoming an Affiliate, which is great news for those just starting out. The new requirements are:
This felt like a hot topic at the event. Some people appreciated Twitch making it easier to become an Affiliate, while others felt it diluted the platform. Personally, I think it’s a great move. More creators can get started and grow. With revenue earning being possible from day one, the main benefit of becoming an Affiliate now is being able to withdraw earnings. Making that step more accessible may actually increase overall platform revenue which benefits everyone.
Let me know your thoughts on this in the comments below.
Twitch is making Affiliate easier to achieve! 1️⃣ 3 CCV on 4 Days (Formerly 3 CCV over 30 Days) 2️⃣ Stream 4 Days (Formerly 7 Days) 3️⃣ Stream 4 Hours (Formerly 8 hours) 4️⃣ Get 25 Followers (Formerly 50 Followers) Join my creator newsletter! tos.gg/s
Watch streaks were tested last year and are now being rolled out to everyone. They reward viewers who watch consecutive streams. A key change is that interacting with a VOD can now count toward maintaining your streak. I’m personally not a fan, as it takes away from the streak’s meaning, but I understand Twitch wants to help more viewers stay engaged.
Watch Streaks are rolling out to all Twitch creators later this year. Missed a stream and lost your streak? Watching a VOD or Clip of that stream will give you a second chance to keep the Watch Streak intact. Never miss an update like this! tos.gg/s
Twitch is adding Arabic language support. This is fantastic for Arabic-speaking users and long overdue considering how much the community has grown.
Twitch will be launching Arabic Right-to-Left support next month. via Google Translate: ستطلق Twitch خدمة الترجمة العربية من اليمين إلى اليسار في الشهر المقبل.
Rewind is a new feature that allows you to go back and rewatch a moment during a live stream. Perfect if you missed a big moment like your favorite streamer dying in a game or calling you out in chat. It’s only available to channel subs or Twitch Turbo users.
Twitch's upcoming Rewind function will be paywalled behind a Paid Subscription to the Channel or an Active Turbo Subscription.
Mod View is now available on Android, with iOS support coming soon. This is excellent for moderators on the go, making chat management easier. Twitch also launched a Moderators Club great for sharing tips, tools, and experiences.
Twitch is launching a Moderator Club Discord to recognize, support, and connect the moderators who help Twitch communities thrive. Requirements: 18+, speak English, be in good standing, and be an active moderator. Apply here: airtable.com/appORSt1Xd4b...
You can now manage shared chat on mobile, another welcome change for streamers who are often away from their PC.
Shared Chat on Mobile will soon be a standalone function and not be anchored to Guest Star usage. Join my newsletter for FREE and never miss an update! tos.gg/s
Creating clips is now less disruptive—you can do it without leaving the stream. This is something many have been asking for and should encourage more sharing and visibility for streamers.
TwitchCon EU 2025 was held at the Rotterdam Ahoy a massive, well-organized venue. Everything had its place, though a bit more signage would’ve helped. Our group struggled to find the affiliate gift station it was pure luck we stumbled upon it. I know some people missed it entirely. Last year, the affiliate gift was given at the entrance, which was much simpler.
Overall, the venue was excellent. It felt like there were fewer stations than last year, but this worked out better it meant less crowding and easier access.
If you’re a gaming streamer or someone looking to grow or monetize, the schedule probably seemed great. But as a developing/coding streamer, I felt it was lacking. A few panels interested me, but overall I missed the developer-focused content we had in previous years. I also wish there were more panels aimed at people pushing for Partner status.
TwitchCon is all about networking, and this year delivered. Community meetups were a great space to talk, share, and connect. That said, many of us are shy and it’s tough to start conversations with strangers. I found that most people were happy to chat once you break the ice. Looking back, I wish I’d pushed myself more. I believe in the work I’m doing with StreamUP and want to share that with the community, but I was too reserved.
Food and drink were much improved over last year. Everything was located in one area, with plenty of options at fair prices. There were also lots of seating areas where you could relax and chat. I’d love to see even more variety next year, but overall, it was a big step up.
I had a great time at TwitchCon EU 2025. Meeting new people and connecting was the highlight. I hope I made some lasting connections that will help grow my channel and StreamUP work. It was exhausting but absolutely worth it. I’m already looking forward to next year.
If I could make a few suggestions:
Once again, I had a fantastic time and I’m already counting down the days to next year.
